This piece was inspired by the Nobel-prizewinning discovery of grid cells, and so the pattern is not perfectly aligned with the edges (it is rotated by around 7 degrees) for a reason. It was made by cutting a base from clear glass and another with white, then overlaying these with hand-cut glass circles in five colours (90 circles in total!). The piece was fired in a kiln to a top temperature of 790C, then flipped over and fired agan to flatten it. The edges were then cold-worked to make them smooth, and the piece was fired one more time in a curved mould, to a lower temperature of 640C, to give it its curved bowl shape.
